Know when a session is required

Workday requires a production tenant session before a user loads or migrates objects to a production tenant. The session authenticates the work by linking the Customer Central user account with that user’s production tenant account.

This is separate from basic Customer Central setup. Production access must already be enabled, and the user must have a valid production account with the permissions required for the load or migration they intend to perform.

Create the session as the person doing the work

Sign in to Customer Central as the user who will perform the load or migration. From the My Tenant Session task, choose the production tenant and open the session. Workday redirects the user to the selected production tenant.

Sign in there with the production account that holds the necessary permissions, then allow Customer Central to access that account. Workday redirects the user back to Customer Central after authorization.

Plan for the session lifetime

A production tenant session remains active for 30 days. It ends earlier if the associated production account is locked, revoked, or disabled. Treat the session as a time-limited authorization, not a permanent configuration setting.

The session can also be closed manually from My Tenant Session. If a migration or load cannot see the production tenant later, check the production access setup, the user’s production permissions, and the current session state before changing unrelated security.

For the current product guidance, see Workday’s production-session instructions.
